Proposed New State Hospital Does the governor of Oregon think that we the citizens of this state have bottomless pockets? $350,000,000 for a new State Hospital is a joke. Even if we allow $100,000 per room, this is an amount sufficient to build a 3500 room facility. Allowing 150 square feet per room would mean a total of 525,000 square feet or approximately 12 acres of floor space. If we take the sublime and go for the ridiculous, at 100 room per floor this would be thirty five floors and a working height of around 500 ft. Now if we go for the gold (the contractors Gold), and figure $500,000 per room we only build 700 rooms. For the original calculated cost of $100,000 per room we could buy one square mile (640 acres) somewhere in the middle of the state, develop it and put 3500 smaller manufactured homes for the residents. Governor Kitzhaber-Roberts II (Kulongowski) seems to be under the impression that the tax payers of Oregon have bottomless pockets. When will he return to reality and learn to use our money wisely? |
